What is Holiday House Camp Like?
At NORTH SHORE HOLIDAY HOUSE, up to fifty five campers per session live in small groups (cabins), where they learn to develop self-confidence, independence and teamwork skills. Educational programs promote environmental awareness, cultural arts and physical fitness in a fun, safe, supportive environment. Each summer, two-hundred girls make new friends while participating in a variety of different, fun and exciting activities. Each session is 11 nights and our campers can choose from four sessions, the first beginning late June / early July and and the last in mid August.
Our goals are to expose our campers to a wide range of programs and activities in order to increase cultural awareness and help to develop an appreciation for diversity; as well as to promote the mental, physical and social growth of all campers and teach girls to value themselves and develop a sense of self-worth.
Campers participate in a wide range of activities designed to expand their world-view and interests and to develop and sharpen their skills. Campers learn about different cultures, music, dance styles and artistic techniques. Our campers have the opportunity to swim every day when at camp - sometimes, even twice a day! Every camper is swim-tested on the very first day of camp by a Waterfront Safety Instructor in order to determine their skill level. The swim test is not a competition and is for safety purposes only. Campers who score a Level 1 are required to wear a personal flotation device and our pool is supervised by American Red Cross certified Lifeguards.
A typical camp day includes an assortment of activities including: arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, nature, sports, Girl Power and more. Camp activities are led by Counselors who have experience in these skills and we also have a wonderful team of volunteers who run programs for us. A highlight of every camp day is the evening program. This program might be a talent show, magician, scavenger hunt, campfire or movie night. We also take two field trips off campgrounds. Campers travel by bus (Huntington Coach Corporation) to and from the field trips and are always supervised by Counselors.
We are fortunate enough to hire both domestic and international Counselors who attend all activities and provide constant and consistent care. Campers learn about the cultures of counselors who have traveled from various countries including: England, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Turkey, Mexico, Poland, Spain and Latvia. These counselors share the fabric of their culture with the campers through play, song and the explanation of cultural traditions. The small size of our camp affords the girls the personal attention of the counselors and staff in a nurturing atmosphere.
